Suze’s Status (6/7/12)Posted: June 8, 2012
Status: No weigh-in until next week
Zee and I had a great walk at a local wildlife sanctuary on Saturday. Although, she did have to remind me a few times to walk instead of looking at all the fauna and flora. But we saw deer, groundhogs (see pic), frogs, toads, and some amazing views in general. And we still ended up with a decent time even though our other friend, who is older and in better shape than us, was not with us to keep us moving at a fast pace. She was running a 10K. I could be bitter about that, but I’m proud of her….and us for walking even though she wasn’t there to keep us accountable.
I’ve come to realize a few things about myself. While I still want to lose more weight, that is becoming less motivation for me on its own. It’s not that I’m happy with the weight I’m at, it’s more that even at 219 pounds (what I weighed at the last weigh in), I weigh less than I have in many, many years. Of course, if I pop back up above 220, I’ll probably be remotivated! Haha!
With that in mind, I’m trying to build some external and physical goals for motivation. Such as running. I need my plantar fasciitis to stop flaring up on our walks before I can even think of trying to run again, but I would like to do a 5K by October 2012, a 10K by April 2013, and a half marathon by October 2013. If I can get those accomplished sooner, hoorah! But those are the goals I have set for now.
My hope and thinking is those goals will spur me on for working out regularly, eating healthier, and losing weight. I will need to workout to accomplish those goals, and eating right and losing weight will make reaching those goals easier.
I’ve also realized I fail often at the “working out on top of chores” plan. Heck, I’ve been slacking on working out consistently in general, but especially when I have to mow the grass. That alone is one heck of a workout & kicks my butt. I might have to start doing my workout BEFORE I mow or head out to do any yard work. Or just be better about working out on all the other days of the week. Then I won’t feel so bad for counting mowing as a workout.
I’ve begun trying to get up at 5:45am. I’m hoping the earlier wake up will help motivate me to get more done in the morning and over the course of the day. Also, getting up early will help me get walks in before I have to begin my day. That’s my hope anyway. I just started this last week, so we’ll see how it goes. So far I haven’t done too bad. I’m certain if I keep at it, I’ll eventually adjust.
(One of the many awesome views from our walk.)
